the way people online talk about autism is getting really weird, like do they know that neurotypicals still have interests? that someone being passionate about a hobby doesn't mean they're autistic? you guys know that right

angelicgarnet

and people are like "its just jokes its not that deep" but when you have people on tiktok convincing teenagers that having music in your head is a sign of autism or saying their nephew is autistic because he talks about minecraft all the time it doesn't feel like a joke it just feels trivializing

Anyone else getting really fucking sick of this support:condemn dichotomy where folks online act like the only two possible responses to anything ever are to wholeheartedly support it or wholeheartedly condemn it?

"Oh you said that you dont think that random stranger should be sent full on death threats and doxxed for their iffy artwork? Why do you support racism" how about we all go outside and interact with real people and see how they react when you say things like that!

"I dont think you should full on ruin this persons life and all their chances of existing online forever over something that could very well be a shitty mistake that can be corrected" seems to be a real hot take among the same crowd who claims to support prison abolition

if you want to say "shut up" in greek you say "skase" which is basically a command to blow yourself up. im pretty sure the idea is like, "hold in your words for so long that they build up inside you until you burst" but it doesnt translate well. because the other day my cousin was practicing english convos with me, and when i was poking fun at her she just says "Explode."

liquidstar

it translates as more of a power move than saying "shut up" normally though

i'm seeing people losing hope for palestine i'm begging you seriously please don't. the death toll is high but there are still people alive, there are still journalists risking everything to make sure the world sees what is happening. please continue protesting if you have the option to, keep demanding for a ceasefire and keep talking about palestinians both alive and dead. you have to keep going until the very end or else you really did fail them.

Reminder that before all this, the population of Gaza was approximately 2,300,000. The current death toll is around 15,500 - possibly as many as 20,000. That's horrific, yes. But that means that there are still at least 2,280,000 gazans alive and kicking. There are 2.28 million people who would benefit from a permanent ceasefire; for an end to Israeli hostility; for increased aid and reliable access to food and water. There are still 2.28 million people that Israel has not managed to kill.

So keep making noise. Do whatever you can to help those 2.28 million living people, and to remember and honour the 15,000-20,000 lives that have been taken. Giving up on Gaza helps no one but Israel.
